What about the license manager? This means that it should be
installed only after copying the whole directory tree to the Altix...

This is kind of weird, does RSI have some special reason not to
sale its product to a 64 bits machine? I agree that it is not
used by that much people yet but even so...!!!

The performance seems to come from the fact that the 64 bits
processor has a very slow 32 bits processor (less than 200 MHz,
I heard) in it where 32 bits programs will run...

Install IDL on an IA32 linux system and then copy the entire
