Hi Graig,

I already read the thread and I had it in my mind to try your
mpfit-routine, which I will try this weekend I guess (although we have
the first sunny days since a long time here in germany...)

It may actually be worth trying a non-linear least squares solver.
These solvers are in fact designed to solve sets of non-linear
equations. You might consult the following example:
