On Posting Flames:

My apologies to the readers of this newsgroup for getting angry. I still feel
that Greg Hollings' original posting contained no technical information and was
just a "plug" for PVI. Please note that I put the word "flame" in the subject
line so those who didn't want to waste time reading my post wouldn't bother
with it. (Many netters key article "kills" on the word "flame" in a subject
line.)

On Advertising:

As you may recall, On Thu, 20 Aug 1992 22:49:43 GMT, mpfh@pvi.UUCP (Peter Hallett x344) said:

Alan>...this is no place to advertise... ...Buy IDL!!!

Peter> Greg's original post was factual; your statement looks like advertising.

[note: juxtaposting my quotes out-of-context is misleading, IMHO, but you
can all reread my original posting and decide for yourselves]

I'd lay this whole thing to rest, but I can't let stand the incinuation that I
somehow am advertising for RSI. I am an employee of the US Government, and
*cannot* accept so much as a free lunch from any commercial organization. My
opinions are based exclusively on experience with *both* products, and employees
of *both* companies. We had trial versions of both Wave and IDL in-house in 91.

PVI employees, on the other hand, are obviously biased toward their own product.
It is my opinion that arguments in favor of PV-WAVE over IDL would be much more
effective coming from their customers.

On Censorship:

As you may recall, On Thu, 20 Aug 1992 20:54:09 GMT, greg@pvi.UUCP (Greg Holling x376) said:

Greg> I sincerely hope that my fellow netters (and the sysadmin that controls

Greg> back on a more professional level.

This is a very interesting comment. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting your suggestion,
but it sure seems like you'd like my system administrator to deny me the
privilege of posting. I should be censored because I like IDL and don't like
PV-Wave? I personally think that net users would lose out, because I do
contribute some useful information to this group. Can't say the same about
you, Greg... If any of you don't like to read my postings, I feel a kill file
is a more appropriate mechanism. However, if you'd like my system admin's email
address, email me and I'll give it to you.

It has been brought to my attention that Mr. Bradley is, in fact, employed by
Precision Visuals. This tactic reflects rather poorly on PVI, IMHO.
