I have been using IDL for about a year and have concluded that it
is the best programming language for my work (forest modelling).
However it has two drawbacks: it is slow compared to C or fortran
compilers, and distribution of the code requires that the user have a copy
of IDL. A compiler, it seems to me, might solve both of these
problems. Is one planned?
