Since IDL can generate (easily) GIF images and the like, it seems obvious
that IDL is well-suited for interactive Web pages (e.g. fill out WEB form
that will tailor IDL commands which then produces a GIF image for Web
viewing).

Anyone have an example of the html forms and (Perl) scripts that we could
take a look at to get us started?

Thanks,

Yes, the NSSDC has created two WWW-based data systems that use IDL as its
graphics engine to generate on-the-fly images from online datasets.

IDL is called via a Perl script and the output is written to a
GIF file that is referenced as an inline GIF image in a dynamically
generated HTML document. A paper about OMNIWeb was presented at the
Third International World Wide Web Conference in Germany and the paper
is available via URL: http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/omniweb/misc/papers/www95.html

OMNIWeb is accessible via the URL:

http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/omniweb/ow.html

and COHOWeb via the URL:
