Gosh, Alan, do you know something about Greg that I don't?
Alan>...you charge way more...
List price for a PV-WAVE floating license is 20% higher than for an IDL
floating license. I've never thought of 20% as "way". If you want
multiple users to simultaneously access a fixed copy on a SPARCstation,
the IDL license costs more than PV-WAVE. If you want to share one copy
between two or more architectures, IDL maintenance costs more. These
are common usage scenarios. PV-WAVE Point & Click costs less than IDL.
Just the facts...
Alan>...for the same basic product...
_Maybe_ before PV-WAVE Version 4.0.
Alan>...no programmable X Widgets...
It IS a little early for you to have heard of Version 4.01 (September).
Alan>...give me what I needed...
If you didn't need date/time functions, raytracing for volumetric data,
SQL-based table manipulation, unnamed structures, shared access to WAVE
variables, etc., sorry. Lots of other people do. Sure, RSI has been
releasing new functions (Widgets, Gridding, Mapping, Volume Slicer, etc.)
but if you look, you will find that WAVE includes new functions also,
including those listed.
Alan>...this is no place to advertise...
Alan>...Buy IDL!!!
Greg's original post was factual; your statement looks like advertising.
From time to time PVI people may comment when something being passed
about as universal truth is not. And apparently some vendors (PVI)
can't use the net to communicate relevant facts with fellow readers
without generating heat from IDL zealots, but it is OK for other
commercial vendors (RSI) to distribute _demos_ over the net. Hmm.
