It is indeed amazing to watch IDL for Windows disable any kind of
multitasking offered by the operating system. (On the other hand one could
argue, that M$ is not able to control the demand of running processes.) I
have had the most luck with the XP Powertoy MSVDM from M$. However, even
with MSVDM you run into problems when IDL gets stuck in one of their system
routines. I managed to set triangulate into an endless loop (bug in IDL)
with the result: Rien ne va plus...
