Maybe I can pin down the problem (thanks to Bill Thompson who put
me on the right track). Under windows IDL allocates only 236
colors. Therefore XPALETTE allows only to change these. Upon
later recall of the saved table LOADCT interpolates from 255 to
the 236 availyble colors and therby includes unchanged values lying
above 236.
I don't yet see a solution to this logical problem.
