Ciao,
I'm a newbie in IDL, but I have just finished a one-week intensive
course with David (maybe you recall me...) and now I want to
experiment!
I have a simple practical task to perform.
I have a fits astronomical image. I just want to zoom it as I like and
then overplot on it x and y axis with the correct RA and DEC
coordinates as read from the header. It's something that can be easily
done with packages like ds9, but I don't like the result so much and
you can't change some default choices. I know there are some tools
that convert image pixels in RA and DEC reading from the header, but I
would like the entire axis to be plot. You could do it recursively for
every point, but I'm not sure how to preserve this info if you zoom
the image. Moreover, I wonder if someone already has a procedure ready
for that. It should be easy.
For example, the ATV image displayer is perfect for my purposes,
because it allows you to manipulate the fits image as you want, but it
lacks this function: there's no way to plot RA and DEC axis.
What do you think?
Thanks,
Stefano
