I've noticed this has happened before:

I've been working on a file in IDL for a while. 'All of a Sudden' the
breakpoints stop working. I set my breakpoint, the little red dot
appears, then I hit control f5 to compile. The little red dot
dissapears! If I go up to the top and click edit breakpoint the
breakpoint is still there, but the dot is gone, and much worse, the
program runs as if the breakpoint is not there.

I had another program open simultaneously and its breakpoints still
work fine. I don't think its just some setting I have accidentally
changed.

I would note that I had just changed the name of the file. I had
accidentally forgotten to change the name of the actual procedure to
match the save name, compiled, got an error, fixed it and recompiled.
Then my breakpoints all disappeared. I don't remember if this was the
same in the past when I noticed my breakpoints disappearing, but its
possible.

So far, I have fixed this by restarting idl or by using the reset
option in the run menu. I guess thats not too hard to do, but I'd be
interested to know what is actually going on.
