He was talking about IDLDE. But if you are using emacs, then the
obvious choice is 'idlwave', which has debugging capabilities. Both
IDLDE and idlwave are Google-able.

IDL is an interpreter not a compiler, a complex debugger is therefore not
necessary. You can set breakpoints by pressing F9 in your source code to
stop the execution and query variable as needed.
