IDL for Win3.1: Is it Beta or Alpha? 3.1 or 3.0? [message #437] Sun, 09 August 1992 13:32

We've purchased a copy of IDL for Windows and the 3.5 inch disks have Beta
2.3.1 written on them. When running the program, however, the program boots up
saying:

% Alpha test version only. For evaluation purposes only.

Is this correct? Did we get a copy of the alpha version by mistake? Also, we
have tried it on two machines, a 486/33 and a 386SX/16. They are both running
Windows 3.1. When typing HELP, /DEVICE the IDL window
returns the following (among other things):

Current graphics device: WIN
Version: 3.0

Is this correct? Should it not say Version: 3.1 instead? This happens on both
the 486 and the 386SX. Also, an IDL program of mine which works on a Microvax
3600 (VMS 5.5, IDL 2.3.2) doesn't work properly on either the 486 or 386SX.
This program uses no fancy widgets or routines. I was wondering how common
that type of problem is (IDL programs imported from, say, a VAX not working on
PC machines). I should provide more details, but maybe someone has a solution
to the first two of our problems which may fix my program disfunction.

Thanks for any help in advance.
