There are some excellent places to look on the web for information
on IDL. http://www.dfanning.com/ is probably the best. And I would also
recommend that you read his book (you can order it on that website).

One thing that may help you is to search through the google groups
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/comp.lang.idl-pvwave?hl= en

There is a button "search this group" that you can use to restrict
your search to just the IDL newsgroup. It is very helpful for
finding answers to your questions.

As a newbie to IDL, one is often confronted with various problems. It
is absolutely normal to ask questions. But try to find the solution
yourself first. Whenever I encounter a new problem, I will firstly
search the IDL help document, then this discussion group, then Google
the Web, ... To ask question here is the last choice.
