Hmmm... Now I'm confused.
Anyone else want to weigh in on this?

Yes, X11.app, and yes.

I too did Archive & Install, and then moved IDL over and this
problem showed up. I just re-downloaded and re-installed IDL 6.1 and
the problem is still there.

Did you install the new X11.app from 10.4 (v1.1)?
Are you running X11.app or something else (Xdarwin)?
Do you have the problem where X11 does not come to the foreground?

Works fine for me, running IDL 6.1 on Mac OS X 10.4 on my Powerbook.
I did an Archive & Install installation and then manually moved my
IDL over from the archived /usr/local into the new one, but didn't
reinstall IDL specifically.

Bugs can be filed at bugreporter.apple.com, though you'll need an
Apple Developer Connection login. Those can be had for free for students,
not sure whether they charge those of you with real jobs. ;-)

I did an archive + install, not an upgrade so I got the latest X11
(v1.1).

I could try downgrading, or maybe if I decide to upgrade another
computer before this is fixed I will keep the X11 that comes with
10.3 (v1.0 I presume?). That should help isolate the problem.

FYI, there is another 10.4 + X11 problem that a lot of people are
experiencing: X11 no longer moves to the foreground when you CMD+Tab
to it from another application. It gets the keyboard focus, but it
does not raise. Sort of like my old *nix boxes used to behave. If
you click 2x on the Dock icon then it comes to the front.

When you installed 10.4 did you do the custom install of X11? I don't
know if X11 has changed, but you might look at this for some hints

I have the exact same problem here...

I installed Tiger as an update on 10.3.9 and specified to install X11
in the Tiger installer. I also installed the X11 SDK along with XCode.

I confirm that the CURSOR procedure is somewhat broken... I can get a
CURSOR output by closing the plotting window but the cursor position
output seems to be erroneous moreover the window is closed, so it is
not very useful...

I also confirm that the widget windows do get focus and are working
perfectly.
