I am using IDL 6.1 for Linux (x86 m32).

Is there a way to save the contents of a directory as an array of
character strings? I can list the contents of a given directory using

pushd,DirectoryName
ls

but have been unable to save the results as a variable. I tried

Contents=ls

but got

% Variable is undefined: LS.

I could not find any documentation about ls in the reference manual.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,
Peter.
