I just got back from a one week training course on IDL given by
the makers of IDL: RSI. I found it to be extremely informative.

Although I had written a lot of widget applications and some
compound widgets in the past, I came away with a lot of new ideas
and a more thorough understanding of some of the finer points.
They really go over some of the niftier techniques in detail and
I found the instructors to be very knowledgeable and
enthusiastic. I also received the course books which are a
treasure chest of good information on IDL.

I would recommend RSI's courses to anyone who is serious about
using IDL to its fullest potential. I think it is going to save
me far more time than the course's cost.
