Well I tried again multiple times cannot get passed this damned license
thing. I switched to a win32 box and after a few tries I got it working...

Oops the web site is rsinc, but my subconscient made me write rsync the
well known transfer protocol :)

Yeah they are writting files in /etc/rc.d which is redhat only ...

Thanks for your help ,
Mathieu

If you ever modify the content of the license file, it will invalidate
it, and the license manager won't be happy. You should never change the
content of a license file, when you need a new one you should ask a new
one from RSI (is that who you meant by 'rsync' ?)
For your particular case, I would think the correct paths are set up in
the license files during the installation process. I would guess that
something went wrong during your installation. It might be a lot easier
to just re-install the thing... (maybe even using the "suggested" paths
to simplify the whole thing ;))
IIRC, the installation is a little confusing - you have to untar the
IDL archive directly in the final installation directory, and launch
./install from it, which is very unusual.

Yeah, I know, you're supposed to launch it at boot time like a service,
but I couldn't be bothered to set it up correctly :-)

Cheers

Salut Vincent,

$ sudo /opt/rsi/idl/bin/lmgrd -c /opt/rsi/license/license.dat

13:30:14 (lmgrd) This log is intended for debug purposes only.
13:30:14 (lmgrd) There are many details in licensing policies
13:30:14 (lmgrd) that are not reported in the information logged
13:30:14 (lmgrd) here, so if you use this log file for any kind
13:30:14 (lmgrd) of usage reporting you will generally produce
13:30:14 (lmgrd) incorrect results.

The license indeed contains a 'DAEMON' line, but again I need to modify
the hardcoded path to point to the proper path. Could someone from rsync
confirm this is ok (one can change the default /usr/local to /opt with
no consequence).

Thanks
Mathieu
Ps: Vincent did you see this is not recommended to start the daemon as
root (it's in the output).

Hey Mathieu,

try to do this as root :

/usr/local/rsi/idl/bin/lmgrd -c /usr/local/rsi/license/license.dat

(changing the paths depending on your installation)
It should work.

Cheers
Vincent

Look at the Installing and Licensing IDL manual. In IDL 6.0 it's located at
IDL_DIR/help/instlic.pdf. There's probably a copy on the CD as well.

Hi Mathieu,
I am Antonio. I don't know nothing about the license problem, but I was
solved the problem I was report on your previous google groups links.
The problem were a bit stupid :(, only thing I need to solve it was
allow file execution on CD directory :)

I have installed IDL on an Ubuntu (Debian based) distribution and have
some related problems with XML and also with STDC++. I send you a couple
of links that possible interest you:

Did you bother to read the "Installing and Licensing IDL" manual, which
tells you exactly how to do this?
