Many thanks to all! This was my first posting to the group and I'm very
grateful for the responses. I ended up using the
xmax=x[inds1]>x[inds2]>x[inds3]>x[inds4]
method. For my 4943x2104 array resizing on a Dual 2.7 GHz PowerPC G5
with 4.5 GB memory the resize command is taking about 0.15 seconds.
