Tried it here on a Desktop G5: pops-up instantly. The G5 is no doubt
faster than the laptops, but not that much faster. Too little RAM
perhaps? IDL, of course, runs under X-windows (X11) on the Mac, not
the native (PDF-based) Aqua. I suspect that X11 on the Mac may be a
little slow for widget-heavy applications, but plenty fast for
straightforward display, e.g. surface plots etc.
