The standard version of IDL will run multi-threaded on a single
computer with mutiple processors. However, the standard version of IDL
will not distribute tasks among nodes in a Beowulf cluster.

That said, Tech-X Corporation has recently released an add-on for IDL
which does allow tasks to be distributed in parallel on Beowulf
clusters. More information is available here:
