Thanks a lot, really a lot! I just typed the command you suggested and
it works perfectly fine then!

Ken Mankoff provided this answer on the IDL newsgroup:

In a terminal just type the following and then restart X11:

defaults write com.apple.x11 wm_click_through -bool true

It worked for me.
