Folks,

Here is a question for today. (Somebody needs to get this
group going again, and it doesn't look like the whole
MatLab/IDL thing is going to do it.)

Suppose I wrote a 16-bit Unicode value (a char in several
programming languages) into a binary file. Then suppose I
wanted to read that value out of the file in IDL and
convert it to a string. How, exactly, would I go about
doing that? Is it possible?
