Folks,

I have been putting in long hours the past several days
updating my web page. It is not completely finished yet,
but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel anyway.
The changes *should* make it easier to update in the future.

Although I am testing as I go, there will inevitably be
errors and mistakes. If you happen to be on a page and
notice an error, please know that I am *compulsive* about
fixing these kinds of problems. Please let me know about it!

Random page checks are passing validation, which only
serves to increase my anxiety that something terrible is
waiting to happen. :-(

Also, please know that the page looks more like I intended
it to look in Firefox or Opera, or in almost ANY browser
other than Internet Explorer. :-)

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

David

FWIW I just found out that:

To increase font size:
Netscape 4.x - use successive "ctrl + ]" commands
Netscape 6.x, Mozila, Thunderbird - use successive "ctrl + +" commands (do not hit
"shift" key)
IE 5.x - on the "View" menu, point to "Text Size" and click the size you want
To decrease font size:
Netscape 4.x - use successive "ctrl + [" commands
Netscape 6.x, Mozilla, Thunderbird - use successive "ctrl + -" commands
IE 5.x - on the "View" menu, point to "Text Size" and click the size you want

For windows/IE there's no benefit, but for all the others changing the font size is a
"ctrl + +" away. Given that lots of IDL programmers use emacs, the use of the crtl key to
change fonts should make lotsa people happy.

The above works on your site, David. I just increased and decreased the font sizes no worries.

You may not fully appreciate this yet, JD, but I used
to believe there was some fixed notion in the world of
"point size", too. Then, I realized it was a function
of which pair of reading glasses I happened to find
when I wanted to read something. There were "small
point size" glasses and "large point size" glasses.
And it was amazing to me how much these could effect my
opinion of news magazine page designers.

I've come now to think of "size" as something that
is completely made up inside of your head, with no
basis in "reality" whatsoever. It has completely
shaken my belief in physics. The only thing I am
certain of any more is that the poet who saw
"A universe in a grain of sand" had a better
optometrist than I do.

Well, let's just say I've managed to reduce the diopter
correction on my reading classes to the point where an
old pair from 10 years ago works fine now. :-)

Tell me about it. Still...60% of the hits on my
web page are with IE. Word travels slowly that there
are MUCH better browsers out there. In the meantime,
swearing profusely is about the only thing that seems
to help much.

Cheers,

David
