In Research Systems Inc. Software vision volume 5, number 1 is
written:

Callable IDL

You can link IDL to your C or FORTAN applications as a
compute/display library... is delivered via ... UNIX sharable
object libraries.

Who knows in which IDL 4 manual this is documented?
To my opinion this has nothing to do with using IDL as an RPC server.

Thanks for your possible help.

I think there are some Tricks for this callble IDL
1. You can not call a IDL subroutine from you program at VMS/AXP version
and Window Version, but you can call your C or Fortran Program fro
IDL, this is ONE WAY callable.
2. You can only run IDL server on UNIX system, may be this server allow
you call idl subroutine for you C or Fortran program ?
