Any intertest in the following proof of concept prototype: IDL -> SIDX
-> Camera
See: http://www.bruxton.com/SIDX/

The SIDX "bridge" is emplemented as an IDL DLM.

Thanks,
-P

Yes, but it does beg the question...is it more important to be
cross-platform and potientially ignore many other modern, value added
techs? Or, is it more desirable to take advantage of all the additional
ease of use techs offered on platforms like Windows and Mac knowing
that some of the features will not port to Linux and other flavors of
UNIX. I'm not saying drop UNIX/Linux support, but it would be nice to
support features offered by other platforms if it makes peoples' lives
easier.

Hi Brad,

Bruxton likes OEM deals for their software and I think they felt that
having IDL come along for the ride would help them sell more SIDX to
the big camera manufactures. They're actually doing quite well with
SIDX which I think is a great idea (single interface into many
scientific cameras).

We are now just beginning to explore whether it will help my team sell
more IDL into the camera manufacture's user base by hooking into SIDX.
Apparently, these camera manufacturers are fiercely competitive, so
having a platform for application development like IDL plus SIDX linked
to their systems is beginning to get some early attention. For
example, I've already spoken to interested reps from:

Andor
BASLER
SciMeasure
Apogee
Horiba
Spectral Instruments

We now just need to identify an opportunity to validate what we think
is a good idea. Hence, I ping the group for impressions since you guys
are probably the most objective.

Thanks,
-P

Very interesting- but what does the "OEM/Volume only, not single user"
note in the IDL support section mean?

I'm currently working on an interferometer project for which an Andor
ixon camera will be used, and we will certainly use IDL for the
analysis aspect, but we haven't decided yet whether we go with an
integrated acquisition and analysis package using IDL or seperate out
the tasks. We already have another ixon which is controlled by a Delphi
program and I don't have a feel yet for how easy it will be to use IDL
in this way other than calling C routines to handle the actual
acquisition. Anything that simplified the interface to the Andor camera
from IDL would certainly be interesting to us but it would need to be
able to handle multiple frames per second. Any opinions on the
suitability of IDL for such an application (there will be other
hardware control issues to be handled too) would be welcomed.
