Hi everybody
Do you know if it is possible to set the display depth at 8 bit
instead of 24bits. I'll try :
IDL> device, /pseudo_color ;but values are always set to default
values
By default when I start IDL visual_depth=24, and visual_name=TrueColor
and Decomposed=1. I work on a laptop under LINUX debian.

As I'm working mainly with curve plots I'd prefer to have a
dynamical color table (which if I understand well is equivalent to
PseudoColor and 8bit). I'm trying to understand the color system since
this morning and I will continue this afternoon to read my IDL bible
(Fanning's book), so my question may be (or not !) obsolete in few
hours ! but I don't care it's just for the pleaure to ask a question
and to hear from you all.
Cheers,
Laurent
