There are a couple of options for those behind the times:

1. If you have an old IDLWAVE distribution working with HTML help, just
install the new IDLWAVE 6.0. You'll get access to your old help, and some
messages about not being able to find the assistant, etc, but everything
will work as it used to. When you upgrade to a version of IDL with
!DIR/help/online_help/ files, these will automatically be consulted.

2. If you've never installed IDLWAVE, you can install v6.0, but then
download one of the "downgrade" kits, which includes the HTML help
package, and the (now obsolete) routine info file idlw_rinfo.el. I'm not
making any more downgrade kits starting with IDL 6.2 (since RSI is making
them for us, in effect).

Note that, even though the Assistant is now the default browser, you don't
*have* to use it. For example, you can use the new system-level help, or
one of my old help packages, with w3, an Emacs-local browser (or any other
browser for that matter). The Assistant is nice because it has a
searchable index.

For those of us "stuck" at versions earlier than 6.2... Does IDLwave
"properly" integrate the help file or should we hold off on implementing
IDLwave 6.0 until we can/do upgrade to 6.2?
