hello,

I don't know if this will help, but from my own experience has been
done in my case.

use ubuntu dapper 5
downloaded installer for IDL 6.2 from rsi website
followed installation instructions provided on website

When I did all these steps I had IDL working on the ubuntu system with
no errors. I have read on the internet for many people that trying to
install with the CD is a mess. This could be a possible solution. I am
not sure, but when you download the IDL program from the RSI website
you can use your student information into the registration file. In
your case though with 6.0 to 6.2 I would imagine you have to upgrade.
Good luck!

Eli
