Back at the end of January I asked the question, <A
href=" http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.idl-pvwave/browse_f rm/thread/ea5ef24dabf42470/a71198074c1fcce4?tvc=1&q=swin gnut#a71198074c1fcce4">Where
are my friggin line numbers?</A> Peter Clinch mentioned that there was
possibly a new IDE being released wiht version 6.3, and to check in
March. March has come and gone, but google shows no signs of a new IDE.
Does anyone know the details of the story?

I would just call it a lack of my imagination.

Believe me, if there was anything I could have done about the Unix DE, I
would have done it long ago. I think this is a step up.

Oh, oh. The thing isn't even released yet and already we are
hearing about the Dark Side. This can't be good.

Well, now *this* sounds like the marketing model I'm more
used to. :-)

Cheers,

David

P.S. Do you think the people making the value-added plug-ins
will get a T-shirt?

I use Eclipse as well and I'll agree that it is great (and I've used it
on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X). It has a bit of startup time, but
after that I don't really notice it being any slower than a native app.
It is also "project based" (i.e. every file is part of a project), so
I'm interested in how that is going to work for the "interactive IDL" users.

The other thing that I think will be great is that it should be open to
third party authors making plugins that extend (or change) the
functionality of the DE. It only takes a few developers out there making
plugins to greatly enhance the value of the new DE.

That's reassuring.

And there's a subversion plugin too:

It looks like there might be a couple projects to do this. This one

http://www.vectrace.com/mercurialeclipse/

seems like the best chance.

Other files and folders can be linked to, if they are part of another
project or not.

I installed eclipse the other day based on this thread (and the fact that there is a f95
plugin).

Slightly off-topic, but what does one do if, for a new project, files from other projects
are required?
