Oh, I thought you were looking for something simple. :-)

Nothing simpler, really, than wrapping those three
XInterAnimate calls up in a procedure that takes
a volume as an argument. Then you have all the bells
and whistles of XINTERANIMATE available to you. As I say,
it would probably take two minutes, tops.
