Can anyone please suggest how to change the color over the black
regions in this figure?

I am reprojecting the data using MAP_SET Aitoff projection and wrapping
the data through MAP_IMAGE.
Before calling MAP_IMAGE, I load the rainbow_white color table which
means the areas outside the map are should be 255 (by default) and
therefore should appear as white. But this does not seem to work, as I
think, IDL considers the map area as rectangular even if it is outside
the reprojected map area. I tried with the MISSING keyword, but with no
success. Any help is highly appreciated.
