For objects in general, you can have a look at
"Programming IDL Objects: Why and how to do it" by D. M. Zarro (L-3Com/GSFC)
http://orpheus.nascom.nasa.gov/~zarro/idl/objects/

The train to the future is the iTrain. Ronn Kling's book
Power Graphics is a good place to start. :-)

RSI/ITTVIS seem quite evenhanded apparently :-)

I hope you are not saying direct graphics is dead? just the letter box,
right? why is the latter dead if the former is not? or am I missing
something?

Should I be jumping off and trying to catch the next one? Is this train
to the future called object graphics? I must admit I have NEVER
knowingly used an object in IDL - only fooled around in Java a long
time ago. Where's a good place to start? I am quite confused...
As for !P.SYMSIZE and PLOT/OPLOT, I think I will just try to write
UBERPLOT/UBEROPLOT so that it explicitly uses the !P value...
Thanks,
Gianguido

I thought only MY complaints got on the "low priority" list!
Holes in contour plots, NLEVELS keywords that give an arbitrary
number of levels, decent direct graphics fonts ....
Welcome to the direct graphics dead letter box. :-)
Cheers,
David
P.S. Do you believe in reincarnation? Maybe next time.
This train has come and gone!
