I think that is the idea, yes. See "underflow errors",
for another example. :-)

Well, I am still hoping that at least parts of IDL might be the kind of
thing that I think it is but, unfortunately, the number of these parts
are getting smaller and smaller.
It especially irritates me for the RESOLVE_ROUTINE problem that keeps
on diplay syntax errors even when using !QUIET or when using EXECUTE
with QuietCompile and QuietExecution set. Do they just like to tease me
and claim that it is QuietExecution but then it actually is not?

No, no, and NO. I know this doesn't discourage you,
but have you given any thought to the idea that IDL
may not be the kind of thing you think it is? :-)
