I just poked around the net and found that the U.S. Geological
Survey has released 1:100,000 scale map data free for download from
the Internet. Of interest especially is the DLG data (digital line
graph?), since it contains mapping data of coasts, borders, roads,
etc. in a vector-type format, especially appropriate for
high-resolution mapping. My question is, does anybody have IDL
code/widgets for reading and plotting this data? It comes in "Spatial
Data Transfer Standard" format. There is a API available that I could
use CALL_EXTERNAL or LINKIMAGE for reading the data; but I'd like to
avoid duplicative work.
