i have a data set that consists of several holes/empty spots, of
various shapes of sizes. i want to generate a random data set, while
keeping these large structure characteristics. right now, i'm
calculating the distance between each random point and the data points,
and throwing the random point away if the distances are too large. it
works, but isn't very efficient since it requires looping over the
data. is there a more efficient method that i'm not thinking of?

thanks,

tara.
