I'm new to IDL (so new I haven't used it yet !); most of my work
has been done in C,C++, and Matlab. I'm going to soon be in a
position where I need to know some IDL and I need to learn it
quickly. I was amazed, after all I'd heard about IDL, at the
scarcity of reference material. Doing a book search I only found
one book (IDL : the language and its implementation / John R. Nestor)
and none of the local bookstores carry it (including Stanford's
campus bookstore which is pretty well stocked) There were shelves and
shelves of Matlab, Maple and Mathematica books but not a single one
on IDL. Also there seems to be no apparent way to "give IDL a spin"
(without any references I don't think 7 minutes would be very useful)
Does anyone have any suggestions re. reference material, trial servers,...
I'm pretty desperate in terms of needing to learn some IDL quickly,
so any pointers would be greatly appreciated, thanks,
