Compound assignment operators were added in IDL 6.0. Here's a table of
all the operators in IDL:

In a heroic attempt to make this post relate even faintly to IDL, I'd
like to thank whoever recently pointed out the "-=" syntax; I had never
even heard of that. Is that new? When was it introduced? I've been
diddling with TEMPORARY() to avoid the memory overhead of creating
variable in certain applications - this'll clean up my code by a good
bit.
