I have 3 sun boxes running solaris 8 (64 bit). They all share
/usr/local, among other things. One of the machines is the IDL license
server as well as an NIS server.

After installing 6.3, I can run IDL just fine from all 3 machines, and I
have no trouble invoking IDL help on the primary machine, but when I try
to get IDL help on the other machines, after printing the message:

% ONLINE_HELP: Starting the IDL online help assistant.

IDL just hangs.

I did a little poking around, and found the command
/usr/local/rsi/idl_6.3/bin/idl_assistant

I can run this command directly from a prompt, Again, it works on the
primary machine and hangs on the others.

It hangs at the call:

exec /usr/local/rsi/idl_6.3/bin/bin.solaris2.sparc64/idl_assistan t
-profile /usr/local/rsi/idl_6.3/help/online_help/idl.adp

The permissions on the various files all seem to look fine to me. I
even copied the actual executable and adp file to my home directory -
again it works on the primary machine, but not on the others.

I also tried invoking IDL using a different license server (our lab
license). Again, help runs fine on the primary machine, hangs on the
others.

Is there some help-assiciated file somewhere that contains the name of
the machine?

Can anyone offer any insight on why this problem might be happening?

Thanks.

-Jonathan
