UNIX based IDL users:
Sorry about this non-IDL question, but I thought this group would be small enough
to come across my problem and intelligent enough to answer it. Anyway, here is
my problem in a nutshell.
I have a cluster of 2 Sun Sparcstation2's and 3 Sparcstation IPC's.
I can telnet to my server workstation and login without any trouble. For the other 4 machines, however, when I telnet to them I give my username and password without any problems, but then I get a "Connection Closed by foreign host" and
then I am booted out. This happens with telnet and rlogin, but not ftp. Also, I
can switch user (su) on any of the machines without any troubles.
In dealing with this problem the last couple of days, I have found that login is
at least part of the problem. If I run login on the server (which has been allowing telnet logins) it runs fine. When I run the same program on any of the other machines I get a segmentation fault. This program is run from a directory mounted from the server. Thus, it is the same program in both instances. I have checked wtmp, passwd, utmp, lastlog, and other files which are used by login, but nothing appears to be wrong with them. I am thoroughly perplexed.
Any insight in regards to this issue would be greatly appreciated. The biggest
problem is that my IDL software is licensed for one of the machines that is not
allowing telnet logins. Thus, I have been hindered. Again, I apologize for the non-IDL question.
Thanks in advance,
Dave Miller
