The routine SCREEN in my library will do it (in fact will set
foreground and/or background to anything you wish). You can find it
on the RSI user contribution page, the name of the library is MIDL.

For a quick and dirty fix, though, all you need is

!p.background = !d.table_size^3 - 1 & !p.color = 0
