Ken,

You mention that MPEG creation requires a special license,
but you don't mention that this license is free for the
asking from ITTVIS. I'm certain no one wants to create
MPEG files, but not having a license shouldn't be their
excuse. :-)

These are mostly aimed at MacOS, but the concepts are generic.
