An FTP anonymous account is now available for astronomy-related
software written in IDL (Interactive Data Language). The IDL Astronomy
Users Library consists of 300+ procedures including those dealing with
FITS I/O, interfaces with astronomy systems such as AIPS,STSDAS and IRAF,
and astronomy utilities such as coordinate conversion and precession.
This FTP anonymous account is being managed under a grant from the NASA
Astrophysics Software Aids program.
For sci.astro: IDL is a commercial programming, image display and plotting
language created by Research Systems Inc., (Boulder, CO). It is
available for most Unix workstations as well as VAX/VMS. The use of
IDL astronomy library software requires the (non-trivial) purchase of a
licence from RSI.
