Try the following for idl.el a GNU Emacs editing mode for IDL code.
This is version 1.28.

;; ftp://fermi.jhuapl.edu/pub/idl_emacs/idl.el
;; ftp://eos.crseo.ucsb.edu/pub/idl/idl.el.Z

You can also obtain idl-shell.el which runs IDL version 4 inside an
emacs buffer as a subprocess. This is version 2.2 (versions before
2.0 are for IDL versions earlier then 4.0).
