The CVS plugin is once again available on the ITTVIS IDL Workbench
update site.
To download it:
1. Open up the IDL Workbench, go under Help->Software Updates
2. Choose "Search for new features to install", press Next
3. Make sure that the ITT Visual Information Solutions site is
checked, press Finish
4. Select the "Eclipse CVS Client" under ITTVIS->Workbench Updates
5. Follow the rest of the wizard
6. When prompted, restart the Workbench
After the client is installed, go under Window->Open Perspective-
> Other, and choose CVS. Then follow the usual instructions for setting
up your client. See my Dec 13 post about "Source Code Management with
IDL Workbench".
Cheers,
Chris

You are not losing your mind. The CVS plugin *was* available on the
IDL Workbench download site...
When we added the IDL 7.0.1 update, I accidently messed up the CVS
feature. Hopefully, it should be back up tomorrow sometime. I'll post
again when it's back.
Sorry about that,
Chris

I tried (and failed). The problem is that the CVS plugin is normally
distributed with Eclipse, so there is no separate update site for it.

I installed the Eclipse CVS client using the update tool
Help -> Software Updates -> Find and Install ...
The client seems to work on Linux and Mac.
The problem I found was that I couldn't use a local filesystem
CVSROOT.
My CVSROOT used to be
/path/to/repository
But now it is
:ext:user@hostname:/path/to/repository
I'm migrating from emacs so I had to commit all my code to my
repository, delete my IDL tree, set up cvs over ssh and checkout
everything again.

I figured if the Culture of Fear works for the government,
it would work for me. But, sales have been anemic.
Probably waiting for the new year to start all the updating. :-)
Cheers,

P.S. I tried the Googling trick with Subversion, but, uh,
it didn't work as well as I hoped. :-(

Google "CVS plugin for eclipse".
Does it have to be supplied by ITTVIS? There wouldn't be any point to using eclipse if the
only plugins that worked had to come from ITTVIS.

The "Can I Install Other Eclipse Plugins or Features?" question on the
IDL 7.0 FAQ page (http://www.ittvis.com/idl/IDL7_FAQ.asp) says "ITT
Visual Information Solutions (update URL is provided by default). This
site includes the CVS Eclipse Plugin and some additional user-
contributed plugins that contain IDL code". I see the "additional user-
contributed plugins" like the Excel, GRIB, and Adventure plugins and
the 7.0.1 Workbench update, but no CVS plugin. (This is accessible
from Help > Software Updates > Find and Install....)
I think the CVS plugin comes with the normal installation of Eclipse,
so I couldn't find another remote update site to grab the CVS plugin
either.

No one has found that CVS plug-in yet? Seriously!?
Wow.

Well, since there is money to be made, and I'm interested in
doubling the 10 bucks I've made on my Installing Subversion
Guide, I thought I would have a go at this. But, frankly,
I can't find the darn thing either. I've searched the ITTVIS
web page, and I've even tried searching though the Workshop
update service, but absolutely no luck whatsoever. :-(
Cheers,
David
P.S. If you want to try Subversion, though, I think I
can point out how to spend $5 wisely. :-)

OK, am I nuts? I tried this on my system:
Fire up the IDL Workbench
Help->Cheat Sheets...->Team/CVS->Check out a CVS project
This then lists 'Check out a CVS project' in a window.
Under Introduction,
Open the CVS Repository Exploring perspective
> Click to perform
Then I get an error message:
The command did not complete successfully.
Details>>
Perspective could not be opened.
What's the use of including a CVS cheat sheet in the standard distribution
if it doesn't work? What am I missing?
Thanks!
