bizzare idlwave abbrev behavior [message #58193] Fri, 18 January 2008 13:35

I recently upgraded my emacs version to the newest CVS version
(23.0.60.2) to take advantage of xtf support. I'm using the IDLWAVE
version (6.1_em22) that is included in that tree. Everything seems to
work as it should, except that in IDLWAVE mode when writing a comment
block the abbrev functionality goes a little nutty. Typing any words
(as comments) that are in the currently loaded abbrev list (M-x edit-
abbrevs (e.g. and or if pro) ) causes an extra space to be inserted
before the specified word, and the point (cursor) is moved to the
first letter of said word.

I only see this behavior inside comment blocks - outside of them, all
abbrevs work as expected. I've tried launching emacs with the "-q"
switch to disable my .emacs file, but still see the same problem.

Any idea on what is going wrong here? According to the IDLWAVE
manual: "IDLWAVE ensures that abbreviations are only expanded where
they should be (i.e., not in a string or comment),..."

BTW - the xtf support is great! - Bitstream Vera Sans Mono-8 is a
fantastic font, and now allows me to fit 2 ~80 character wide frames
next to each other without overlapping on my 1024x768 laptop display,
while keeping things easily readable.

Thanks
