only as a guess I think that the "Network is unreachable" error is a
mapped network drive or NFS mounted drive issue. That is an error
that one sees a lot setting up Linux networking. I wonder if you are
doing something with a network file that you don't have permissions on
or something like that. But this is reads which is also really odd as
it isn't a file command... ok I don't know anything.

I've figured out the problem. Line 77 showed this:
READS, date, juldate, FORMAT=$
'( C(CYI4, 1X, CMOI02, 1X, CDI02, 1X, CHI02, 1X, CMI02, 1X, CSF06.3) )'

but the date variable was a null string. That is what caused the 'end
of file unit' error. As for the "Network is unreachable", I have no
idea why that came up.
