No, I'd say it's par for the course.

Microsoft go out of their way to make life "easier" for the user by hiding all
the configuration from the user. This is really nice when everything works, but
when it doesn't you have no idea where the information you need has been
hidden. Documenting where it's hidden would only confuse the user, so Microsoft
don't do that.

Unfortunately, Linux is rapidly moving in the same direction. Progress...
