We are in the process of purchasing software to teach visualization
and simulation on the PC's.

I'd like to get your qualified comments on relative merits of IDL,
pv_Wave, and Matlab for the purposes of:

1. undergraduate teaching
2. research

Are there any other useful packages that run on PC's?
