Routines to read and write gif and jpeg files are supplied with IDL and not
with PV-WAVE (at least, not with the version we have[PV-WAVE CL Version 5.00
(sun4 solaris sparc)]. A good argument in favour of IDL. (VNI: are you
listening!). Those routines are written in IDL but they call hidden built-in
code to do the lempel-ziv encodeing/decoding which the gif format uses, so I
don't think you could cheat and use them in pv-wave, even if this were not a
dubious thing to suggest.
