I haven't seen this behaviour before and not really sure what to do.
Rick's question about the codec is right, maybe PowerDirector is using
an unsupported codec? I looked at www.fourcc.org and did not see any
codec's with their name.
I am just about ready to release a new version of the AVI reader/
writer. The functionality is the same but the error handling is a lot
better and may give insight into your issue.
Keep an eye on the newsgroup for the announcement.

I've tried a number, Cinepak, MS RLE, MS Video 1, Indeo 4.5, 5.1,
Uncompressed full frames, all seem to barf when I try and read into IDL.
Currently occupied trying to find out a bit more about the budget USB
grabber I'm using, making sure I'm getting correct data rates etc.
Pete.
